Books I'd recommend to friends
This is an ongoing list of books I love, because the characters and premise draw me in right away, the book's pacing holds my attention throughout, the story stays with me long after reading, and I wish I had written it!
This is not a review site! That said, if you see a book on this page you can automatically assume it's a 5 star book. I'm only recommending the best... Keep in mind that all readers' tastes differ and my tastes are very eclectic. I will post the blurbs since that's usually the way I choose my books. I find recommendations from friends really help too!
I will post a book's cover and be sure you can read the title and author's name or names, then you can find it at your favorite bookstore or order it online.
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
Scottish Highlands, 1945. Claire Randall, a former British combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding clans in the year of Our Lord . . . 1743.

Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power -- the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.
Threatened, Zeus banishes her to a deserted island, where she hones her occult craft, tames wild beasts and crosses paths with many of the most famous figures in all of mythology, including the Minotaur, Daedalus and his doomed son Icarus, the murderous Medea, and, of course, wily Odysseus.
But there is danger, too, for a woman who stands alone, and Circe unwittingly draws the wrath of both men and gods, ultimately finding herself pitted against one of the most terrifying and vengeful of the Olympians. To protect what she loves most, Circe must summon all her strength and choose, once and for all, whether she belongs with the gods she is born from, or the mortals she has come to love.
